How monitoring is organized

Two calendars run at once. One is breast-cancer screening: mammography on the schedule your age and risk require, with the technologist told that implants are present so displacement views can be done. The other is the implant: silicone gel implants need ultrasound or MRI beginning 5 to 6 years after surgery and then every 2 to 3 years, even when the breast looks normal, because rupture is often silent.

A change overrides both calendars. New swelling of one breast, a lump, persistent pain, or a shift in shape is examined, not watched until the next routine date. That is how a contracture, a rupture, and the rarer question of BIA-ALCL are told apart. Each of those has its own page in this section so you can read the distinction before you come in.

The record of that visit is the same record Dr. Funk, Dr. Takasumi, and Dr. Sayah use. If the implant has to come out, the reconstruction conversation does not start from zero.
